Originally from Alès, Elga Dekra is a contemporary artist living and working in Marseille. He first discovered painting through graffiti, where his style and approach quickly set him apart from the conventions of the genre.

His creations, blending deconstructed figures and abstractions, paired with quotes from writers, philosophers, and rappers, move away from repetitive lettering and the need for self-promotion. His graffiti practice led him to the prestigious École des Beaux-Arts in Montpellier, where he graduated. During his studies, he continued his creative exploration and began working in the studio.

Elga Dekra quickly finds his style. Far from contemplative or mainstream productions, he offers us a raw painting — sometimes violent, sometimes vulgar, but always shedding light on societal issues.

What inspires Elga is the reality of a social class that seems straight out of an Émile Zola novel. His work tackles contemporary issues, from the condition of women to homophobia, alcoholism, and prostitution. The harshness of these subjects, the desire to provoke and shock, is contrasted by a vibrant color palette, with pink dominating — a true signature of the artist's style.
